The recent appointment of Denise Baker and Wayne Egan as the Co-Managing Partners of WeirFoulds LLP was featured on Law.com International.
Speaking about why moving from a single managing partner to a shared management role, Wayne emphasized his desire to continue his securities law practice while continuing to serve the firm as a managing partner, noting “the amount of time and the complexity of the issues that you face isn’t getting simpler as time goes on.”
The firm’s 25% growth since Wayne was appointed as managing partner in 2018, paired with unforeseen complications that arose due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, led Wayne to realize that “it really wasn’t sustainable for one person to do the job.”
The divided role not only lets Denise and Wayne share the responsibility and challenges involved with managing one of the most historic law firms in Canada, it also allows for each to bring their unique backgrounds, areas of expertise, and perspectives to the role. “I think we bring different skills and different strengths to the role, and that, I think, helps the firm generally,” Denise said.
