Partner Hayley Peglar will serve as a program speaker during The Philanthropic Testator: Effective Testamentary Charitable Giving, a webinar that will be hosted by the Ontario Bar Association on Wednesday, January 17th.

A charitable gift in a will can be an excellent way to achieve a testator’s philanthropic goals, but careful planning is essential to address all aspects of those goals. These can include effective tax planning, avoiding confusion about the intended beneficiaries of the gift, and minimizing the risk of estate litigation.

A panel of experts will dive deep into the issues and opportunities presented in testamentary charitable giving, including ways in which a gift can be structured in a tax effective manner, the pros and cons of direct designations of registered accounts, drafting errors and pitfalls planning lawyers should avoid, and what is more impactful for an organization: donations of securities, cash or other in-kind gifts?
