Narmada Gunawardana is an Associate in the Municipal, Planning & Land Development Practice Group at WeirFoulds LLP.
Prior to joining WeirFoulds, Narmada worked as an Associate at a Toronto-based law firm focused on land development advocacy and associated litigation. In this role, Narmada worked on a wide variety of files representing clients such as developers, homeowners and non-profit organizations both in support of and opposition to development applications. She also worked closely with experts to prepare submissions and strategies for mediations and hearings as well as drafted mediation briefs, conducted research and drafted memorandums of law on a variety of topics related to municipal law, planning law, and expropriation law.
Earlier in her legal career, Narmada was an Associate at a defence-focused insurance law firm in Hamilton, Ontario, where she drafted materials for various contested and uncontested motions for the Superior Court of Justice in Ontario, acted on trials and completed various aspects of trial preparation, and gave legal opinion to clients on a variety of matters.
While in law school, Narmada was actively involved in both the Windsor and Detroit communities and volunteered in various legal clinics on both sides of the border. She was also selected as a Judicial Intern for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan where she worked on both civil and criminal matters.
