Seven WeirFoulds lawyers to serve on OBA Law Section executives for 2024-2025 term

WeirFoulds is pleased to announce that several of our lawyers have been elected to the OBA’s Law Section executives for the 2024-2025 term, commencing September 1, 2024.

Michael Ding, Associate, has been elected to the Taxation Law Section as the Newsletter Editor. Michael’s practice revolves around advising on various tax and dispute resolution issues. Prior to joining WeirFoulds, Michael practised as Counsel with the Department of Justice where he appeared before the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Canada, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

Kelsey Ivory, Partner, has been elected as the CPD Liaison of the Administrative Law Section. Kelsey’s practice is focused on regulatory, administrative and public law. She has experience advising on issues related to human rights, capacity, registration, complaints and discipline, and regularly represents clients on appeals and judicial reviews.

Vipal Jain, Associate, has been elected to the Privacy and Access to Information Law Section as the CPD Liaison. Vipal’s practice focuses on privacy and technology matters, enabling her to help organizations with matters relating to data governance, cybersecurity and business transactions.

Brian Kuchar, Partner, has been elected to the Construction and Infrastructure Law Section as a Public Affairs Liaison. With a diverse litigation practice that includes commercial and civil matters, Brian works with a variety of clients on matters involving construction liens, deficiency claims, commercial leasing, and employment law.

Natasha Novac, Associate, has been elected to as a Public Affairs Liaison of the Health Law Section. Natasha’s practice focuses on regulatory law and civil litigation matters. She has regularly appeared before the Superior Court.

Emma Romano, Partner, has been elected as the Vice-Chair of the Entertainment, Media and Communication Law Section. Emma’s practice includes media and defamation, professional liability, and aviation law, as well as commercial and general civil litigation. She also practises in the areas of IT and IP law, with a focus on high-tech and Internet-based companies.

Jonah Waxman, Partner, has been elected as the CPD Liaison of the Elder Law Section. Jonah has appeared on contentious motions and applications before the Ontario Court of Appeal, Ontario Divisional Court of Justice and Ontario Superior Court of Justice. He has also conducted multi-week trials before both judges and juries, as well as before various administrative tribunals.

As members of the OBA Law Sections, our lawyers will play an important role in shaping the future of their practice areas, in addition to executing specifics projects as assigned by the Chair, organizing specialized programming on current issues, advocating for streamlined procedures, producing informative articles that keep section members up to date.
