WeirFoulds is pleased to announce that Lisa Borsook, the firm’s Executive Partner and Co-Chair of the Commercial Leasing Practice Group, has been recognized by the Ontario Bar Association as one of the 2024 recipients of the Award for Distinguished Service.
The OBA’s Award for Distinguished Service is awarded to members of the Ontario Bar Association who have made exceptional career achievements in or contributions to the legal profession in Ontario, jurisprudence in Ontario or Canada, the law or development of the law in Ontario or a significant law-related benefit to Ontarians.
Throughout an exceptional legal career, Lisa has upheld the highest standards of professionalism and legal excellence, establishing herself as one of the most accomplished, recommended and highly respected commercial leasing and infrastructure lawyers in Canada. Her mandates have played a foundational role in shaping commercial real estate development throughout the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario and Canada, with an impact that includes large-scale ground leasing and development projects, complex sale-leaseback agreements and establishing the leasing framework for numerous local, regional, national and international clients.
Lisa served as WeirFoulds’ Managing Partner from 2007 – 2012, and at the time of her appointment she was one of the first female managing partners of a major law firm in Canada. During her tenure, she heavily advocated for the inclusion of women on significant and influential firm committees, which played a significant role in creating a more equitable working environment and helped lay the groundwork for the firm’s WeirFoulds Women Committee. She has also built a reputation for being deeply committed to mentoring young lawyers, helping to shape the careers of tomorrow’s leading practitioners.
Outside of WeirFoulds, Lisa has authored over 150 articles throughout her career, covering all aspects of commercial leasing law, and is frequently invited to speak at and moderate seminars, conferences and leadership panels for vendors such as SCG Legal, the ICSC Canadian Law Conference, the RealCapital Conference, Canadian Real Estate Forums and more.
“Over the Firm’s 164-year history, there are few lawyers who have had such a profound impact on so many aspects of WeirFoulds as Lisa Borsook,” said Co-Managing Partners Denise Baker and Wayne Egan in a joint statement. “She is very deserving of this prestigious recognition, and we congratulate Lisa on this well-earned honour.”
