WeirFoulds is pleased to announce that Counsel Gregory Richards, former managing partner, chair of the partnership, and head of the litigation practice, was presented with the 2020 Joel Kuchar Award for Professionalism and Civility by the Ontario Bar Association during the OBA Awards Gala on June 9, 2022.
Although Greg was originally named the winner of the Award in early 2020, the Awards Gala scheduled for that year was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After two long years, members of the OBA were finally able to gather in person for the Awards Gala to celebrate the recipients’ achievements.
The Joel Kuchar Award is an honour given to one OBA member every year, recognizing individuals who consistently demonstrate an exemplary commitment to the ideals of professionalism and civility in the practice of law. Distinguishing qualities the Award recognizes include a commitment to professionalism, civility, fairness, and integrity, a thorough knowledge of the law and a strong willingness to share such knowledge through mentorship, participation in legal education, and generosity with one’s time.
Greg has exemplified these traits throughout his career, striving for a standard of excellence in his practice since being called to the bar 40 years ago. He has gained a wealth of knowledge during his years of practicing law, having appeared before all levels of court. He has always taken a keen interest in sharing his knowledge with others, being a former award-winning teacher of trial advocacy at Queen’s University Law School, participating in speaking and teaching opportunities, taking on mentorship roles, and writing a range of legal publications.
The firm once more congratulates Greg on receiving this well-earned honour, and commends him for the personal and professional qualities for which he has been recognized.
