WeirFoulds is pleased to announce that Gregory Richards, counsel, and former managing partner and chair of the partnership, will be awarded the 2020 Joel Kuchar Award for Professionalism and Civility from the Ontario Bar Association.
The Joel Kuchar Award honours a member of the OBA who consistently demonstrates an exemplary commitment to the ideals of professionalism and civility in the practice of law. Among other things, the Award recognizes: a commitment to civility, fairness and integrity; a dedication to the highest ideals of the profession; a sound knowledge of the law and a willingness to share that knowledge; and the generous giving of time through involvement with the OBA or other professional associations.
Greg has shown a commitment to these ideals throughout his career. As his colleague Frank Walwyn, put it, “not only is Greg one of the best lawyers, but he is also one of the finest people”.
In nearly 40 years of practice, Greg has litigated a broad range of cases, several of which have been precedent-setting. His cases have taken him before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada.
In addition to his practice, Greg has always given generously of his time, sharing his knowledge through mentorship, participating in legal education, and by writing and speaking. Greg has consistently been an active participant in the OBA and many other professional organizations.
Greg will receive his Award at the OBA’s Annual Awards Gala on September 23, 2020.
