On Wednesday, February 15, 2023, WeirFoulds proudly hosted Chef Deon King of King Catering for a Black History Month celebration and culinary experience.
As an all-service corporate and personal chef caterer that specializes in Caribbean cuisine with a North American twist, the Toronto-based King Catering is just one example of the many Black-owned businesses that are further enriching the city’s world-renowned food scene.
WeirFoulds lawyers and staff had the opportunity to sample some of the delicious dishes King Catering offers while Chef Deon answered questions about his experiences within Toronto’s culinary scene. He also hosted a live, interactive cooking demonstration, where he prepared macaroni pie alongside two of our articling students. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the dish’s deep, historical roots in the Black communities of Canada, the United States and the Caribbean, as well as discover the profound impact that the Black diaspora has had on the culture and cuisine of North American countries.
WeirFoulds is dedicated to furthering the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion, both within our workplace and in our communities. In further recognition of Black History Month, WeirFoulds has made a contribution to Parents of Black Children, an advocacy group dedicated to supporting families and facilitating equitable outcomes for Black children through contribution and transformational change.
