We’re pleased to announce that Partner Ben Kates has been named to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of MAiD Assessors and Providers (CAMAP).
CAMAP is a national, charitable organization that was incorporated in 2017 to support the practitioners involved in the provision of MAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying) related care, to educate about MAiD practice, and help set the highest standards of care regarding the determination of eligibility and the provision of MAiD itself.
While CAMAP is predominantly an association of physicians and nurse practitioners, participants also include individuals interested in MAiD research, services and policy. This includes social workers, nurses, care coordinators, pharmacists, lawyers, researchers, administrators, policymakers and others. The diversity of its membership is valuable in cultivating a true community dedicated to understanding and improving MAiD practice.
Ben is a highly experienced litigator and a key member of our Regulated Industries and Professions Practice Group, with a practice focused on both administrative and civil law. His experience providing advice and counsel to health professional regulators, experience in administrative matters and professional liability cases, and long history of legal advocacy make Ben well-suited to support CAMAP’s initiatives and goals.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to sit on the CAMAP Board of Directors. CAMAP provides invaluable guidance to practitioners in a new and evolving area of health care. I look forward to participating in the next phase of the organization’s growth,” said Ben Kates.
We wish Ben well in this important mandate.
