WeirFoulds is pleased to announce that Partner Emeritus Bryan Finlay, QC, has accepted an invitation from the Supreme Court Advocacy Institute to join the Advisor Roster for Toronto.
The Supreme Court Advocacy Institute is a program initiated by the Honourable Frank Iacobucci and others in 2007, which offers free advocacy advice to counsel appearing before the Supreme Court of Canada. The Institute offers to all counsel appearing before the Court the opportunity to appear before a panel of two or three senior appellate counsel to moot their argument in advance of the hearing. The program has been immensely successful and, in recent years, has assisted counsel in over 50 per cent of cases before the Supreme Court.
The Institute has a roster of senior appellate counsel with significant Supreme Court of Canada experience (“advocacy advisors”) in every major Canadian city. In Ontario, the Institute’s advocacy program is overseen by a Regional Committee consisting of Sheila Block (Chair), Brian Greenspan, John B. Laskin, Roslyn J. Levine, Benjamin Zarnett, Erin Dann (session coordinator for Toronto) and Colleen Bauman (session coordinator for Ottawa).
Bryan is recognized as one of the top litigation lawyers in Canada. His counsel practice is broad and has engaged the most complex commercial, constitutional, tort and public law issues.
We congratulate Bryan on this prestigious invitation.
