WeirFoulds is pleased to announce that Partner Glenn Ackerley, Chair of the firm’s Construction Practice Group, has been elected President of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers (CCCL).
Glenn assumed the role on May 24th, 2024, at the CCCL’s Annual General Meeting held during its 27th Annual Conference in Montreal. Almost one hundred Fellows attended this year’s conference to hear colleagues, guest speakers and panellists share their industry insights on a wide range of topics and issues pertaining to construction law and the broader construction industry under the theme “Construction Law in Challenging Times”.
The CCCL is an organization intended to facilitate and encourage the association of outstanding lawyers who are distinguished for their skill, experience and high standards of professional and ethical conduct in the practice or teaching of construction law, and who are dedicated to excellence in the specialized practice of construction law. Through the association of its members in an environment of collegiality and good fellowship, the CCCL strives to nurture, improve and enhance the practice and understanding of construction law.
A construction lawyer with 35 years of experience, Glenn is regularly consulted about negotiating and preparing construction and consultant contracts, procurement and tendering issues, and risk avoidance strategies. When disputes arise, Glenn acts for clients in construction lien and trust claims, bond claims, and construction deficiency and delay claims. Glenn also regularly acts as mediator, arbitrator, and referee. Glenn sits on one of the National Advisory Councils of the Canadian Construction Association, is a Past Chairman of the Board of the Toronto Construction Association, and was a member of the Expert Panel’s Advisory Group on changes to Ontario’s Construction Lien Act which led to the new Construction Act.
